Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre
ActionsNew Recreation Facility Renamed Lake Country Co-op Leisure Centre After Lake Country Co-op’s Significant Legacy Donation.
Prince Albert, SK – The City of Prince Albert is excited to announce a significant partnership with Lake Country Co-op, which has secured a large investment in the City’s new Recreation Centre. Lake Country Co-op has committed $10 million for a 25-year agreement, payable over the term of the agreement, demonstrating their dedication to the community by supporting youth and the growth and development of Prince Albert.
This legacy sponsorship agreement grants Lake Country Co-op the exclusive naming rights for 25 years to the new recreation facility, now called Lake Country Leisure Centre and the surrounding neighbourhood (still to be determined), ensuring the company’s name will be synonymous with this energetic, transformative community space.
“I just don’t know how to thank the Co-op. On behalf of our community, thank you. It’s a big project for us, and raising funds in the community is huge. This legacy contribution is the largest donation in our City’s history. This impressive contribution demonstrates Lake Country Co-op’s commitment to Prince Albert and the region. We want to thank the members, the board of directors and the Co-op leadership for steering the ship in this direction. This investment and the support and confidence Lake Country Co-op is showing in the growth and development of the City of Prince Albert is just incredible,” says Mayor Greg Dionne
Lake Country Co-op’s mission is to enhance the success and vibrancy of their communities, and this is one way they are accomplishing that. “As a business leader in North Central Saskatchewan and Western Canada, the Board of Directors was ecstatic to make this legacy donation,” said Rick Kindrachuk, Lake Country Co-op Board President. “As a committed and longstanding member of this vibrant community, we understand the significance of investing in initiatives that enhance the quality of life for everyone. This new regional facility will provide valuable benefits to youth, families, and individuals in Prince Albert and across North Central Saskatchewan and Lake Country Co-op’s trading areas, such as Nipawin, La Ronge, and Big River.”
Lake Country Co-op strives to be recognized by their members, customers, and partners as a retail innovator, community supporter, and business leader in Western Canada.“I would like to recognize our Board of Director’s vision for taking bold, positive action demonstrating what it means to be a leader in community support,” said Tim Keller, Chief Executive Officer for Lake Country Co-op. “It is crucial for businesses to invest in long-term infrastructure like this for youth, families, and individuals as it fosters a sense of community, promotes well-being, and creates opportunities for personal development, which ultimately contributes to a stronger and more progressive local economy.”
The new Recreation Centre, set to become a hub for sports, fitness, and leisure, will be completed by the end of the year, with a grand opening projected for the Spring of 2025. The Aquatics area will be 51,000 square feet, featuring a dedicated space for lane swimming and a leisure area. With dedicated spaces for competitive swim groups, more public swim times and swimming lessons for families. The twin arenas will cover 77,159 square feet with more seating, larger ice surfaces and more dressing rooms than our existing capacity at the Kinsmen and Steuart Arenas.
Lake Country Co-op is a member-owned retail co-operative that employs over 1,300 team members who serve over 54,680 members in 20 communities in North Central Saskatchewan. Within Prince Albert and surrounding areas, Lake Country Co-op operates food stores, pharmacies, convenience stores with full-service gas pumps and card lock facilities, liquor stores, home and building centers, agro centers, and commercial rental units.
The City of Prince Albert thanks Lake Country Co-op for its remarkable contribution and looks forward to continued collaboration as the project progresses.
